Step Pyramid

Tuesday, October 28

After breakfast, we will visit Sakkara, an ancient burial ground and archaeological site in Memphis, Egypt that includes pyramids, tombs, and funerary complexes dating back some 3,000 years before Christ. This is also the region where Abraham lied to the Pharaoh about his wife (Genesis 12:10-20 and Genesis 20). Among the tombs is the Step Pyramid of Djoser which is the oldest complete stone building known in history. As we visit several tombs of pharaohs and high officials, we will see the decorated tombs with scenes depicting their journey to the next life, including the famous “Pyramid Texts” which detailed the afterlife rituals and the deceased king’s journey to the afterlife realm. We will also see several grain silos which were typical of the structure that Joseph would have used to store his grain as referenced in Genesis 41:48. After lunch we will continue to the Giza Plateau to see the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world. There will be free time to saddle up your camel for a ride through the desert! We will end the day with a group dinner at a local restaurant and enjoy sunset over the pyramids. Grand Egyptian Museum

Wednesday, October 29

This morning, we will tour either the new Grand Egyptian Museum, the largest, most modern, and most renowned museum in the entire world or the Egyptian Museum, the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East, housing over 170,000 artifacts. After an orientation of the museum, there will be free time to explore the galleries. Following lunch, we will visit Coptic Cairo, a historic neighborhood in Old Cairo, Egypt that offers a glimpse into the history of early Christianity in Egypt. We will tour the Hanging Church, built in the 9th century to ‘hang’ high upon the walls of Babylon. We will also see the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus which is believed to be where Joseph, Mary and Jesus took shelter and lived during their exile from Israel. This afternoon we will visit the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, home to 22 Royal Mummies including Amenhotep II, the Pharaoh of the Exodus, and Queen Hatshepsut, the Pharaoh’s daughter who found Moses in the Nile. Philae Temple

Thursday, October 30

After breakfast, we will fly from Cairo to Aswan and check into our resort hotel for the night. The remainder of the day will be free to enjoy the property, a tranquil environment of lush tropical gardens with magnificent views of the River Nile. Felucca Boat

Friday, October 31

After a late check out, we will board a traditional felucca boat (sailboat) ride and then continue with a motorboat to explore the rocky islands of the Nile River. We will see the remnants of a temple on Elephantine Island which was once occupied by a community of refugees who fled there during the Babylonian and the Assyrian invasion to Judea and Samaria. This is the only temple built outside of Jerusalem where sacrifices were offered to The God of the Hebrews. We will also visit a Nubian community, a vibrant community renowned for its colorful houses, rich culture, and warm hospitality. Late morning, we will board the Nile Shadow II for our 3-night cruise. After lunch, we will tour the Philae Temple, one of Egypt’s most beautiful and best-preserved ancient sanctuaries. Located on a peaceful island on the River Nile, this temple is dedicated to the goddess of love. Overnight: Nile Shadow II or similar (B)(L)(D)

Abu Simbel Temple

Saturday, November 1

This morning, we will fly to Abu Simbel to visit the Abu Simbel Temples, two temples built by Ramses II that feature four 66-foot colossal statues of himself carved into the mountain. After the construction of the Aswan High Dam in the 1960s, these temples were in danger of being destroyed by flood waters. To save the temples, workers cut the temple into 1,100 pieces, moved it 300 feet back and reassembled on the same sandstone cliff from where they were built over 3,000 years ago. After lunch, we will disembark to visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, a double temple which stands at a bend in the Nile, where in ancient times sacred crocodiles basked in the sun on the riverbank. We will admire the fascinating detailed reliefs on the walls and continue sailing to Edfu. Tonight, we will enjoy a lecture on the life of Joseph, his father, Jacob and his brothers who settled in Goshen. The archeological evidence of the Canaanite era in the area of Goshen is fascinating and proves perfectly the story of Joseph and his family when they came to Egypt to live. (Genesis 42). Luxor Temple

Sunday, November 2

This morning, we have an early start to visit The Temple of Edfu via a horse drawn carriage. This temple is one of the best-preserved ancient Egyptian temples due to being buried under layers of settlement debris for thousands of years. Afterwards we continue sailing to Luxor, formerly known as ancient Thebes. Upon arriving in Luxor, we will visit the Temple of Karnak, one of the largest religious complexes in the world. We will walk along the avenue of the Sphinxes and marvel at the Hypostyle Hall with its 134 massive sandstone columns. We will also see the Biblical reliefs of King Shoshenq or the Biblical Shishaq who attacked the cities of Judea and Samaria at the time of King Rehoboam. After lunch we will visit the Temple of Luxor with its colossal Statues and Obelisk. We will understand why Luxor is considered the World’s greatest open-air Museum. Monday, November 3

Prior to disembarking this morning, there will be an opportunity for an optional hot air balloon ride over the Nile River Valley. This sunrise ride will give an amazing view of the fertile Nile River Valley and the stark desert landscape of the Sahara Desert. Following breakfast, we will visit the Valley of the Kings, the major burial ground for most of the royal pharaohs of Egypt including the tomb of King Amenhotep II, the pharaoh of the Exodus. The royal tombs are decorated with traditional scenes from Egyptian mythology and reveal clues to the period’s funerary practices and afterlife beliefs and prove the opulence and power of Egypt’s pharaohs. After lunch, we will tour the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of ancient Egypt’s finest monuments to learn about the fascinating life of Queen Hatshepsut. Queen Hatshepsut was Moses Egyptian mother and Egypt’s first female ruler. Luxor is known for alabaster, a translucent stone that has been used in Egypt since the time of the Pharaohs and we will visit an Alabaster workshop to learn how it is mined and used to create beautiful vases as referenced in Matthew 26:7. Port Said in Egypt

Tuesday, November 4

After breakfast we will retrace the footsteps of Moses and the Israelites as they wandered in the wilderness over 3,500 years ago in search of the Promised Land. On this Exodus route, we will pass under the Suez Canal and see the different stops made by the Israelites on their journey. Our guide will reference the Land of Goshen, the home of the Israelites, and the options of where God parted the water for them to cross the Red Sea. Late afternoon we will arrive at St. Catherine’s, home to the burning bush of Moses. We will enjoy dinner tonight at the base of Mt Sinai. Overnight: St. Catherine Guest House (B)(D)

Sinai Mountains

Wednesday, November 5

For those who choose to climb Mt. Sinai, the journey will begin at 2:00 am to climb the mountain (or ride a camel part way up – extra fee applies) to enjoy a wonderful sunrise and time of praise and worship atop Mt Sinai. After breakfast, we will visit St. Catherine Monastery, The Church of Transfiguration and the Monastery Museum. Time allowing, we will possibly meet one of the monastery monks to learn about the digitalizing project of the ancient manuscripts in its library. The library is the second largest in the world after the Vatican. This afternoon we will drive to Sharm El Sheikh to enjoy our all-inclusive resort hotel on the Red Sea. Thursday, November 6

Today is a free day to enjoy the beautiful Red Sea. There is an optional excursion on a yacht (with lunch included) to enjoy snorkeling over the beautiful corals of the Red Sea and to see the colored fish around the famous Islands. We will also visit White Island, a white sandbar isle known for its pristine crisp white, soft sands. Scuba diving is also available for those that are certified (extra fee applies). Or you are welcome to enjoy the resort and its amenities. This evening we will enjoy a group dinner at the hotel. Overnight: Hilton Double Tree – Sharm El Sheikh or similar (B)(L)(D)
