Friday, August 22
Arrive Cape Town, South Africa and transfer to our hotel in the Alfred and Victoria Waterfront area of the city. Overnight Cape Town, Victoria and Alfred Hotel

Saturday, August 23
After breakfast, we will enjoy a city tour of Cape Town, known as the “Mother City”, and is the oldest city in South Africa. Perched between the ocean and the mountains and with a national park as its heart, there is nowhere like Cape Town. We will travel by cable car to the top of spectacular Table Mountain for unforgettable sweeping views. We will also visit the colorful houses of the Malay Quarter (Bo Kaap) and shop for authentic souvenirs at Greenmarket Square. We will end the day with a leisurely stroll through Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, one of the greatest botanical gardens of the world. Overnight Cape Town, Victoria and Alfred Hotel (B)

Sunday, August 24
Today we will drive to Stellenbosch – the heart of South Africa’s wine industry and a place of great beauty and culture that is steeped in South African tradition. The Stellenbosch wine route is arguably the country’s most famous, and the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin area includes 106 cellars. The heart of the town lies amidst the oak-lined Dorp Street. With its venerable old buildings, this is the University’s main thoroughfare, where modern student life sits comfortably side by side with our history and architectural heritage. We will visit a winery estate in the heart of Stellenbosch, with a history dating back to the 1700’s. After lunch and shopping in Stellenbosch, we return to Cape Town and visit Robben Island via a ferry ride across Table Bay. Robben Island is the infamous maximum-security prison where Nelson Mandela spent 27 years of his life in exile. We will also have the opportunity for interaction with an ex-political prisoner. Monday, August 25
Today we will explore the beauty of the Cape Peninsula as we drive along one of South Africa’s most scenic routes passing through Hout Bay. We will enjoy a cruise to Seal Island to view seals and sea birds at Duiker Island. During summer, several thousand Cape Fur Seals lollop leisurely among the kelp beds. We continue along Chapman’s Peak Drive and to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve where indigenous fauna and flora are conserved in this priceless wilderness area. By way of The Flying Dutchman funicular, we will ascend to the top of the Cape to see the two lighthouses. En route back to Cape Town, we drive through the historic naval base town of Simon’s Town and also stop at Boulders Beach to visit the penguin colony. Tuesday, August 26
After breakfast, we will transfer to Cape Town International Airport for our flight to Kruger National Park. Upon arrival, we will be met by our driver for transfer to our safari lodge which will be home for the next 3 nights. After a late lunch at the lodge, we begin our safari adventure with an afternoon game drive which will continue into the early evening in order to view the nocturnal animals. Wednesday, August 27 and Thursday, August 28
Both mornings begin with an early morning wakeup call and coffee and snacks served before our ranger escorts us to our open-air safari vehicles for a morning game drive. After watching the African plains and their residents wake up, we return to the lodge and enjoy a hearty breakfast. The remainder of the morning is at leisure or to enjoy a guided bush walk with a guide. Lunch is served at the lodge and afternoon game drives begin at appr 3:30 PM. Friday, August 29
We will have an early morning transfer to Kruger airport for our flight to Livingstone, Zambia. Upon arrival, we will transfer to our hotel located in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Later this afternoon, we will enjoy a Sundowner Cruise on the Zambezi River where will heed the call of Africa while enjoying snacks and beverages. Overnight Victoria Falls Hotel, Zimbabwe (B)

Saturday – August 30
After breakfast, we will depart for Zambia to the launch site for Livingstone Island. This island is located in the middle of the Zambezi River right on the edge of the Victoria Falls just before the water thunders down a 340 feet drop. For the brave at heart, a swim in Devil’s Pool is included. This afternoon, we return to Zimbabwe to view Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Our guide will explain how the falls were formed and what local customs and traditions surround them. Overnight Victoria Falls Hotel, Zimbabwe (B)(L)

Sunday, August 31
This morning we will cross the border into Botswana where we will spend the next two nights at a safari lodge on the Chobe River. The Chobe National Park is home to the largest concentration of elephants found anywhere in Africa and it is not uncommon to encounter herds in excess of hundreds of animals. After lunch is served at the lodge, we will depart on our afternoon safari in Chobe National Park. Overnight Muchenje Safari Lodge (B)(L)(D)

Monday, September 1
This morning we will have an early morning wakeup call followed by tea & coffee before our ranger escorts us on our early morning safari. After breakfast at the lodge, we will board a boat to enjoy a full day safari on the Chobe River. We will watch hundreds of elephants swim in the river and enjoy the sunshine and mud on the river banks. After dinner, there will be an optional night safari to see the nocturnal animals of the area. Tuesday, September 2
This morning after our final game drive, we will have the option to visit the nearby village of Mabele for a cultural experience with village members and elders or to enjoy mokoro rides along the Chobe River. (A mokoro is a dugout canoe propelled by a solo operator). Later this morning, we will transfer to Kasane Airport for a flight to Cape Town International Airport with an approximate 7:00 – 8:00 PM departure for the US. (B)
