Day 2, May 4

Upon arrival in Lisbon, we begin with a guided walking tour of Lisbon’s charming and historic neighborhoods. We will explore the Alfama district, known for its narrow, winding streets and stunning viewpoints like Miradouro da Senhora do Monte. We will experience Lisbon’s rich past as we explore the Baixa-Chiado District, a bustling area filled with lively squares and historic landmarks. Depending on flight arrival times, we will enjoy a group lunch or dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight Lisbon – Madalena by Beautique Hotel (L or D)

Day 3, May 5

After breakfast, we will travel to the enchanting town of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage site nestled in the lush hills outside Lisbon. We will visit the Palacio Nacional de Sintra, a striking palace with its iconic twin chimneys and a fascinating blend of Moorish and Manueline architecture. After lunch, we will visit Quinta da Regaleira, a mystical estate filled with hidden tunnels, enchanting gardens, and the iconic Initiation Well—a spiraling descent into a world of symbolism and legend. We will also stand atop the towering cliffs of Cabo da Roca, the dramatic westernmost point of continental Europe to view the breathtaking scenery overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Day 4, May 6

This morning we will drive to the Alentejo Region, known for its rolling hills and expansive vineyards. We will visit a traditional vineyard and cork farm and learn about the centuries-old practices of winemaking and cork harvesting. After a jeep ride through the vineyard, we will enjoy wine tasting and lunch at the estate. Afterwards, we will continue to Évora, a city steeped in history and charm to visit the haunting yet fascinating Chapel of Bones, a macabre masterpiece lined with human remains. Day 5, May 7

Today we leave Portugal and travel eastward towards Spain with a stop in Mérida, a city that proudly showcases its Roman heritage. We will visit the Roman Theatre, one of the best-preserved in the world, the amphitheater and marvel at the impressive Roman bridge spanning the Guadiana River. We end the day in Seville, the vibrant capital of Andalusia. There will be free time to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Guadalquivir River and the enchanting atmosphere of the city. Day 6, May 8

After breakfast we will visit the majestic Seville Cathedral, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world, and climb the Giralda Tower for panoramic views of the city. We will also see the Tomb of Christopher Columbus and explore the Real Alcázar, a royal palace that blends Mudéjar, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. Later this afternoon, we will enjoy the lively streets of the Santa Cruz district, where narrow lanes, charming plazas, and orange-scented air encapsulate the magic of Andalusia. Day 7, May 9

This morning we will drive to Córdoba to explore the awe-inspiring Mezquita Cathedral. Once a grand mosque and now a stunning cathedral, the Mezquita’s forest of red-and-white arches and intricate Islamic detailing offers a breathtaking glimpse into Andalusia’s layered history. After our visit, we will continue through the rolling olive groves and Sierra Nevada foothills to Granada, the last stronghold of Moorish Spain. Day 8, May 10

This morning we will visit the magnificent Alhambra Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Spain’s most iconic landmarks. We will explore the Nasrid Palaces, with their lace-like stucco work and tranquil courtyards, then stroll through the Generalife Gardens, a serene oasis once reserved for royalty. The Alhambra’s intricate Islamic artistry and sweeping views of the city are spellbinding. This evening we will enjoy dinner and flamenco in Granada’s old quarter. Day 9, May 11

Today we will travel to Spain’s vibrant capital city of Madrid. While en route, we will visit the hilltop city of Toledo, once the cultural heart of medieval Spain. Known as the “City of Three Cultures,” Toledo enchants with its mosaic of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim heritage. We will visit its splendid cathedral, wander through its ancient streets, and admire the artistry of El Greco’s hometown. Late afternoon arrival to Madrid. Day 10, May 12

After breakfast, we will visit the iconic landmarks of Madrid such as the Palacio Real, the official residence of the Spanish monarchs and the world-famous Prado Museum, home to masterpieces by Francisco de Goya, El Greco, and other legendary artists. We will enjoy the historic Plaza Mayor and its vibrant surroundings and experience the creative and dynamic energy of the Spanish capital. Day 11, May 13

Today’s adventure begins with a journey aboard the AVE high-speed train to take us from Madrid to Barcelona in comfort and style. We will enjoy the scenic landscapes of Spain as we traverse the country at remarkable speeds, arriving in the vibrant Catalonian capital of Barcelona around midday. Upon arrival to Barcelona, we will take a guided walk through the Gothic Quarter, the city’s historical heart. We will explore its narrow medieval streets and discover hidden squares like Plaça Reial and marvel at the ancient Roman walls and Gothic architecture. Day 12, May 14

This morning we will visit the whimsical world of Antoni Gaudi at Park Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage site adorned with colorful mosaics and unique architectural elements. After lunch, we will enjoy a visit to the awe-inspiring Sagrada Familia, delving into the intricate details of this monumental basilica that has been in construction for over a century.
